Shah Rukh Khan’s home production, Ra.One, went on the floors with rapper Akon flying in from Senegal with his crew to record a special number for the film.
When quizzed on the superhero adventure, Khan asserted that even he doesn’t know what he’s producing since they haven’t started shooting yet: “I don’t know what we’re getting into but I’m sure we’re trying to do something novel. If we succeed, we’ll have given birth to superhero films in Bollywood. We’ve only had the beautiful Krrish and Drona so far.
With my film, I’m sure we can set the genre in place.”
Given that the title of his film sounds similar to Mani Ratnam’s Raavan toplining Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan, Khan argues, “His Raavan refers to a mythological character, mine is about a superhero.”
In the Anubhav Sinha directed fantasy, Khan plays Jeevan who has been bestowed with special powers to solidify electricity.
A desiTerminator? All Khan will say is that Ra.One is a kiddie flick. “I decided to make it for my son Aryan and daughter Suhana who are big fans of superhero movies. I had to do something to make them happy. I’m sure the film will please kids across the globe,” he avers.
Meanwhile, Khan whose IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders, will take on last year’s defending champions, Deccan Chargers, in the first match, is hoping to get Akon to record an anthem for his boys in purple. “But he’s a very busy guy and here only for a short duration. My son is a great fan of his music and could sing his song before any of us elders understood the words,” he smiles. “If we wish for another anthem for KKR, I might put in a request.”

Given that Akon was all praises for Khan, would he arrange a special show of his recent release, My Name Is Khan, for him? The actor says that he would have had if Akon had the time. “I’ll arrange for a DVD with subtitles for him once he reaches New York. He is such a workaholic that you have to pull him out of recordings for parties and get togethers,” he laughs. “Besides, if I arrange one more show, I know I’ll be bored, watching my film for the umpteenth time.”
