The actor had tweeted that she was getting married to Kolkata-based friend Varun Thapar, with pictures of the latter proposing his love to her. “That’s the husband,” she wrote, after tweeting, “I am getting married to Varun Thapar.”
However, the next morning, she tweeted, “Last nite was a joke and I’m not getting married. Varun is my best friend (sic).” Soon, everyone was talking about how Sen had pulled a publicity stunt.
The 32-year-old now says, “I just want to say that I am in Kolkata ... grown up with these people (Thapars). I was in their home and not a public place. It was a mock-wedding which I tweeted. I was having fun. Next morning I had to tweet it was a joke because a tabloid in Kolkata said if I didn’t, they were going to carry an article, so I said it was a joke. Varun, our our families and I have just had a great laugh. Why defame my character for no reason?”
