A decade after co-writing Gaja Gamini with MF Husain, Kamna Chandra has penned a script for her daughter, Tanuja Chandra, who returns to the archlights four years after the Shiney Ahuja-Sushmita Sen Hindi movie, Zindagi Rocks, and the English co-production, Hope And A Little Sugar.
Kamna who has earlier written films like Prem Rog for Raj Kapoor, Chandni for Yash Chopra and 1942 — A Love Story and Kareeb for son-in-law, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, has now scripted an “epic love story” for Tanuja’s seventh film.
The film that, according to the buzzvine, has been tentatively titled Woh Pyaar Hi To Tha, is set in a small town in North India and according to a source, is a “raw and gritty emotional drama, inspired by personal experiences but with plenty of fiction woven in to embroider the facts, and about real people who can you relate to”.
Rajeev Khandelwal has been signed to establish the North Indian “connect” since he is from Jaipur himself. Stand-up comedian Vir Das who was recently seen in Badmaash Company, is also a part of the cast.
While many of Tanuja’s earlier films have been women-centric, this one gives equal importance to both the protagonists. The female lead has still to be confirmed and the hunt is on for “not a big star, but an actress with the believable body language of the hinterlands”.

{{/usCountry}}Apparently, Tanuja has wanted to make this film for a long time and has been working on the script with her mother. Produced by Maverick Production, the film is expected to go on the floors in the next couple of months and should be wrapped up by the year-end but the team is wary of disclosing too many details.
