Southern superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya wed Ashwin, a Stanford graduate, here on Friday. The typical Brahmin ceremony was organised at the Rani Meyammai Hall in Chennai.
Invitees belonging to the film industry, business world and politics attended the high profile ceremony, a television report said.
Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and other high profile guests were reportedly present at the wedding.
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram also blessed the couple, but had to leave early for an urgent meeting in New Delhi.
Ruling Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) party members were also there. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also attended.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Jayalalitha did not attend the wedding as she was in the Kodanad hill station for assembly poll related work.
In a statement, Rajinikanth said he wanted to invite all of his fans to his daughter's marriage; but was unable to do so because of space constraints and logistical problems. He said, however, that he wanted their blessings for his daughter.
