,” said actor Imran Khan before he swapped rings with girlfriend Avantika Malik at her family farmhouse in Karjat on January 16. The couple kept the ceremony close-knit, said the Khan scion, adding, “We had invited 300 guests, mostly family and close friends. We wanted to keep it personal.” Aamir Khan was there with wife Kiran, so was Mansoor (Imran’s uncle and director of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak) and family.

No actors

Prodded about whether ‘buddy’ Ranbir Kapoor attended, Imran said, “I’ve been bombarded with queries about whether Sonam Kapoor, Deepika (Padukone) and others were invited. I had invited Karan (Johar), but no matter what the media reports, I did not invite actors to the engagement. So Ranbir was not on the guestlist.”

The couple had decided to forego the trend towards a theme for the party. “There was no dress code. In fact, two of my friends had borrowed my suits,” laughed the actor, adding that he and Avantika were amused when event managers showed them funny décor themes. “We don’t have to go over the top just because I’m an actor? There was a DJ and people danced, like any other party. Everyone had a good time,” he said.

The couple met at a common friend’s party eight years ago and hit it off.
