Rani Mukherji, who reigned as the Bollywood queen years ago, hopes to reclaim her throne with her latest offering — Dil Bole Hadippa! And while a lot has changed, she confesses she still feels the same anxiousness before a release like she used to.
“Because my last 2-3 films have not done well, there is a sense of disappointment that I failed to entertain my audience. I don’t want people to come out of the theatres saying, ‘We didn’t like her work’. It’s very important for me to see what the audience thinks of my work,” she says.
Another thing that, she rues, hasn’t changed is having to face recurring reports of her link-up with director Aditya Chopra.
“For people to doubt my intelligence and the way I’ve been brought up, and paint a picture that Rani Mukherji is a person who will hide her marriage is completely ridiculous and stupid. Why would someone like me, who is educated and is an independent woman, want to hide her marriage only because she’s an actress?” she questions.
But then why does she stick to the Yash Raj banner even though it just adds fire to the rumours? “There are so many actors who are associated with so many banners, but just because they are men, they aren’t linked up. Emraan Hashmi always works with Mukeshji [Mukesh Bhatt] because he’s the nephew, Shah Rukh works with Karan Johar… there is just a comfort level you have with a banner. I will associate myself with Yash Raj and will continue to since Adi [Aditya Chopra] and Yash uncle [Yash Raj] have supported me unconditionally,” she concludes.
