By now, you must have been bombarded with tips telling you what to do and buy and wear in order to make Valentine’s Day special. Well, here are things you should NOT do.

Some are pretty obvious. You do not want to toast your love with cold beer or get so sloshed you spend the evening puking on his/her shoes (or worse); IPL season shall provide plenty of opportunities for that.

Next, keep it simple and elegant — there’s a reason why wine and champagne are runaway favourites. You don’t even have to empty your pocket to buy a bottle. Indian labels are also good.

If you are looking at a 5-course meal at a stylish restaurant, it’s wise to look at the price of the bottle before ordering. I know people who’ve tried to be gallant and ordered without so much of a glance; the bill left them virtually penniless for the next couple of months.

And last but not the least — if it’s the ‘big’ night for you, dropping the diamond into their champagne flute and waiting for her to realise it, may be a romantic idea. Only, I’ve heard of a girl who didn’t see the ring. She swallowed what had cost the man a cool $ 12,000! So take your chances with due care. And hope you have a great Valentine’s Day.
