Talk about mother-daughter bonding. Actor Vidya Balan and her mother arrived at a recent award function wearing the same kanjeevaram check print sari, with a slight difference in colour. While Vidya was snapped in the ensemble on the red carpet, her mother was seen in a duplicate outfit sitting in the audience.
Fashion designers say that while the gesture can be called “cute”, the two could have worn the saris at different functions instead of the same. Designer Shaina NC says, “It is not appropriate for a mother and daughter to wear the same outfit at a public event. What sense does it make? Designer Anjana Bhargav says, “I think it is quite cute. It needs a lot of confidence and bonding to do something like this. I quite like this.”
Stylist Rishi Raj says, “I find it super cute. I don’t think it is a fashion faux pas but instead clearly shows how Vidya has decided not to bother about the junta’s (public) opinion about her sartorial sense.” Designer Nida Mahmood says, “I feel it is a sweet statement to make. But I still feel wearing different clothes is not such a bad idea.”
