French President Nicolas Sarkozy and first lady Carla Bruni’s two-day stopover in the Capital was marked by luxury like you’ve never known — a freshly launched 16-room suite, complete with a spa, a personal butler, an antique piano, art by the masters, and the country’s finest craftsmanship on view.

On Sunday and Monday, the Sarkozys became the first to occupy an opulent 6500-square feet set in the city’s Taj Palace Hotel — the Tata Suite. Its Mughal-themed interiors included rare carpets, original lithographs depicting 19th century India, and marble flooring patterns from the ancient Jaalis. Swarovski crystal chandeliers and paintings by M F Husain and Anjolie Ela Menon adorned the walls.
