Charlie Sheen must wait at least another month to serve his punishment in a domestic violence charge after a plea deal that would have sent the actor to jail hit a snag. Sheen, 44, had been scheduled to enter a guilty plea to a complaint, following a Christmas Day incident where he allegedly held his wife Brooke Mueller at knifepoint.

The star of television sitcom Two and a Half Men and Oscar-nominated films such as Platoon and Wall Street was reportedly set to receive a 30-day jail term in exchange for the guilty plea.

However, Monday’s hearing ended with both defense and prosecuting attorneys asking for more time to continue negotiations. A further hearing was scheduled for early July. Sheen was arrested on December 25 in the celebrity-packed mountain ski resort on charges he threatened Mueller during a violent argument at a rented holiday home. Lawyers for Mueller later asked authorities to drop the charges, but the prosecutors refused.
