Howdy Folks! I suppose you’ve survived the Monday blues and settled into your week this Tuesday morning, unless of course you are a barber. Oops! Sorry, ‘hair stylist’, because most hair stylists take Mondays off. Apparently, most people cut their hair on a Sunday! Maybe because everyone likes to look spruced up and spiffy at work/school, at the start of the week!
So, how is your week treating you? Feeling good? Motivated? Ready to rule the world? If that’s not how you are feeling, it should be! Here’s what I want you to do. No matter where you’re sitting right now reading this paper, become aware of how you are sitting. Now, straighten your back, throw back your shoulders, lift your head, tuck your chin, take a deep breath and tell yourself—“I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul”. I truly believe that the way you hold your self is key to how other people perceive and react to you.
If you’re going to sit around at your desk hunched over, or walk to the water cooler shuffling your feet, or stand with all your weight on one leg, hand on the hip thrusted out to one side, chances are that you are going to be passed by, overlooked as just another in the crowd. If you’re holding yourself proud and erect though, it shows the world that you are alert and mean business. You are self assured and people will take you more seriously, will listen to you more readily. In short, ‘Sit up for success’!
The way you carry yourself goes a long way in projecting to the outside world what you think of yourself, about your capabilities. It shows that even if you may not have all the answers, you are eager to learn and find out. People with better posture will be given more chances in life. Take it from me; I’ve seen it happen over and over again.
More than anything else, when life is taking you on a roller coaster ride and everything is not smooth sailing and the seas are rough, psychologically you can do wonders for yourself by breathing deep and standing strong. Throwing out your chest, lifting your head and taking it squarely on the chin. Letting life know that it cannot beat you down for you are stronger than your destiny! So now as I leave you poised and perfect, I hope the rest of your week treats you well!
