They call me a Cyclone! Now I haven’t quite figured out if that’s meant as a compliment or not, but I can definitely understand the descriptor! In my sheer enthusiasm for everything I do and my need to do everything ‘absolutely perfectly’, I do tend to whip up a cyclonic storm!
I've been away for many many months this year and so when I finally arrived home from the Don 2 schedule in Berlin, I was itching and raring to go! But this time round, my storm had different drift... the schedule I kept was cyclonic but quite unusually, I wasn’t... there was suddenly a clear calm within me... at the centre of each storm. And all of this, I owe to Rumi.
A 13th-century Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic, Rumi walked back into my life and my consciousness after a long hiatus! It was almost like meeting an old friend, who reminded me of the person that I once was and also showed me the person that I had become. What added to this rediscovery was the fact that my Berlin shoot schedule was so organised and well planned that it gave me time to indulge in many of my favourites pastimes... from watching movies and reading to taking long walks with my music and now, Rumi, for company.
There is a certain magic in poetry... it questions you, touches you, uplifts you... It makes you think, it makes you feel, it makes you love! Quite suddenly, I find myself living in a constant “floating” state, which has nothing to do with worldly intoxicants but comes only from knowing that being in a constant state of love is the only way of godliness. That’s what Rumi teaches you and while it may sound a bit deep, it really is quite simple. Love doesn’t necessarily mean material love or the love for a certain someone... It’s the love for a feeling... to be a feeling that cannot be denied!
