He may be locked in a messy divorce battle with his second wife Sabah Galadhari (whom he married twice), but that doesn’t deter composer-singer Adnan Sami from saying ‘I do’ for the fourth time.
On Sunday, Sami will marry Roya Fariyabi, a telecommunication engineer based in Munich, Germany. The very next week, he will be back in Mumbai for a court hearing on his divorce.
Sami married Dubai-based Galadari in 2001 and divorced her in 2004. They remarried on April 5, 2007, only to end up in a bitter and public fallout last year. Sami now refuses to acknowledge Sabah as his wife. “Islamic marriage law states that a woman be married to another man for at least six months before she remarries her first husband. So technically she was never my wife. Even if she was, my religion permits me to have three wives,” the composer said in an interview. His statement has not gone well with Sabah and her lawyer Mrunalini Deshmukh, who term it “incorrect.” Speaking to HT City, Deshmukh says, “After the lower court termed their marriage null and void, Sabah has filed a plea in the High Court challenging Sami. It comes up for hearing in February. Until then it is not correct on his part to say such things.”
Roya and Adnan are currently in Islamabad. On Monday night, they attended a dinner at Sami’s uncle Zulfi’s house in the city. Actress Pooja Bedi, a close friend who was allegedly attacked by Sabah in Sami’s house last year, will attend their wedding. She says, “Roya is gentle, loving and importantly has promised not to scratch me.”
