Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor brought a dash of Bollywood glamour to the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2009 yesterday. In a no holds barred conversation with Hindustan Times Advisory Editorial Director Vir Sanghvi the couple spoke about their relationship, the role of the media in Indian cinema and, of course, Kareena’s ‘size zero’.
“Whatever I am and where I am is because of my body of work and not just my body,” said Kareena when asked if “size zero comes before being number one in the industry.”
Kareena denied she was ever a size zero but confessed that her drive to lose weight had been a reaction to criticism for how she looked in an item number in the film Don. “People said I looked fat and I took it badly. I just wanted to look glamorous and prove that I could lose weight for a role as easily as I could put it on.”
When asked if her diet was unhealthy, Bebo turned to Saif for help, who jumped to her rescue saying, “Her diet was really healthy, even I tried it for some time.”
Saif showed off his ‘Kareena’ tatoo to the crowd and said it was an attempt to show Bebo, who often teased him about being a Casanova, that he was past his wandering days. “Once when were talking about David Beckham, I asked her how a tattoo would look on my shoulder. She said ‘Why not your arm?’ I said okay, ‘What about the letter ‘K’?’ and she said, ‘that’s a bit ambigious’, so I eventually got her whole name tattooed. Now, if she ever calls me a Casanova, I can wave my arm in her face.” Saif added, “This is it for me, this tattoo is proof of my committment.” To which Kareena afffirmed, “Yes, this is it for me too.’

Saif recalls, “When I told her about the rumours she gave me a look and a smile… and sometime later, while sitting under a tree in Ladhak, I told her, ‘You know, you and me will be great together.’ That’s where their love story began.
