The best part of my job is that I get to be my own boss, and take a break whenever I please. So I take off for the big fat Assamese-Bengali wedding. On arrival, I'm greeted with a name card saying "Bhelcome Phor Goowahati" at the bottom. My crazy friends!
It’s great to reunite with close pals from college with who you’ve been through the gawkiest of times. It’s amazing how they are all just the same after all these years! I guess the good ones never change, or at least when we’re all back under one roof. The wedding is huge and there are even a bunch of Australians who've landed up . It’s cute to see them enjoying the mehendi, bindis and bangles, and walking barefoot like it’s something exotic. Their amazing curiosity puts into perspective how much we know about our own culture and how much we don't! From things like what goes into a paan, why we apply haldi and the significance of the bindi and the ‘saath phere’, my knowledge is put to the ultimate test.
I have never managed getting mehendi done on my hands as I fear that it will affect auditions and hinder work. But mehendi or not, we dance our hearts out doing the bhangra and the 'bihu' (Assamese folk dance) while trying to initiate the foreign folk into it. The dance floor is where, sometimes, I feel I don't deserve to be in Bollywood, with friends superseding me with their ‘Munni badnaam’ and ‘Sheila ki jawani’ steps. Just because I’m an aspiring actress, it doesn’t mean I know every step. I’m a starlet, not Superwoman! For the Aussies in the house, I’m sure our moves of ‘screwing in the light bulb’ and ‘petting the dog’ are far more entertaining than standing in a line and doing the chicken dance on cue at a pristine white wedding!

{{/usCountry}}One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fishSo my mini-break started in Chennai a week ago and while I made sure I did my Surya Namaskars, putted on a golf course to keep myself active, I also got some good R&R with some retail therapy and a fish pedicure. The fish spa, which is a new fad in wellness, is reflexology coupled with cannibalism and that nice feeling of relaxation all in one.
I’m guessing my next week back home is going to be the lull after the storm. I have an interview lined up for a documentary on Bollywood dreams where I take the viewers though a day in the life of an aspiring actress. Sounds like fun.
