Meera Deosthale on being out of work since March 2020: I had become cranky

Actor Meera Deosthale says she took time to accept the situation in her life as she feels that an actor’s life thrives on a set.

The pandemic hasn’t been easy on a single soul given the toll it has taken on everyone’s health and economic aspects. Actor Meera Deosthale got a bitter taste of it when her show, Vidya was taken off air abruptly in March 2020 due to the lockdown. Things turned worse, when the show didn’t return even after the restrictions were lifted.

“Of course, not having work impacts an actor. Since 2014 that I’ve been in Mumbai, I’ve been working every day of my life until March 17 last year.... that’s when we stopped shooting,” says the actor.

She admits it was “difficult to process” when the show suddenly went off air. “For a couple of months after that, I was so cranky because I wanted to go back on set. I just couldn’t be in the house for so long. It was so boring,” she adds.

It took her some time to accept the situation, as she has always believed that an actor’s life thrives on a set.

“But you’re sitting at home not knowing when the work is going to come again. Now, that feeling has gone. I’m not cranky anymore. But, I miss standing in front of the camera. I miss that family of 40 – 50 people on set and sitting with my co-stars,” shares the actor.

Deosthale, 25, however, is quick to mention that she’s in a better place now and grateful that she has a roof over her head and food on her plate.

“There’s a certain phase that everyone goes through. I can live fine for some time without work. I’m just taking this as a phase to understand how it feels to not be working for a prolonged period. I also self introspected and concluded that ultimately down the line, we’re all going to progress in life,” she muses.

The actor best known for TV shows Sasural Simar Ka, Dilli Wali Thakur Gurls and Udaan, says things did start looking up but before anything could materialise, the second wave hit and put everything again on halt.

“I’ve been approached for couple of interesting projects but with the recent lockdown, things went south again. So, it’s all on hold right now. I’m looking forward to testing for those projects, as they’re all very different,” she ends.
