He’s already an ambassador for the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) anti-smoking cause. Now Vivek Oberoi is set to toughen his stand against tobacco — by urging you to say no to gutkha.
We’ve learnt that a few days ago, Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Ministry approached him to be the brand ambassador for their anti-gutkha campaign. And the Kismet Love Paisa Dilli (KLPD) actor has agreed.
“Vivek’s name came up because he has been doing a lot to promote the anti-smoking campaign. So the officials felt he would do justice to the gutkha campaign too. Plus, with his popularity, youngsters are likely to listen to him,” says a source.
Vivek confirms, “Yes, I’ve agreed on principle (to endorse the anti-gutkha campaign), but we’re yet to get through the final paperwork. I’m already endorsing an anti-smoking movement, so why not an anti-gutkha campaign too?”
The Maharashtra government recently imposed a year-long ban on the sale of gutkha and pan masala in the state.
The actor, who is busy with multiple projects — KLPD, Jayantabhai Ki Love Story, Krrish 3 and Grand Masti — is expected to finalise the details of the campaign within a month or so. “He’s likely to shoot a few stills and videos for the campaign. commitments,” says the source.

Coincidentally, Vivek’s Krrish 3 co-star Hrithik Roshan is also believed to be in talks to become Maharashtra’s brand ambassador. But nothing is confirmed yet, since Hrithik is in the middle of Krrish 3’s shooting schedule.
