Football World Cup kicked off on Thursday evening in Soweta, South Africa with high octane performances by international artists such as Black Eyed Peas, Shakira and Alicia Keys. Shakira, wearing an animal print outfit, Waka Waka-ed the World Cup anthem and dance.

The Black Eyed Peas performed a medley of their hit songs, while Alicia Keys said, "I plan to bring a lot of light, love tonight." An exuberant Archbishop Desmond Tutu, in full South African green-and-yellow fan regalia, was treated like a rock star as he led the crowd in cheers for Nelson Mandela.
