Model-turned-actor Rahul Bhat seems to be facing a bit of an identity crisis these days. Rahul, who’ll be seen next in Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly, has often been confused with Mahesh Bhatt’s son, whose name happens to be Rahul too. And so, it was assumed that the filmmaker’s son would be starring in the film — when it’s actually Rahul Bhat, who has been a part of films like Yeh Mohabbat Hai (2002) and Nayee Padosan (2003) before.

A source says, “Rahul plays the lead in this thriller that is based in Mumbai. Anurag has asked him to be under house arrest since his look and character is the film’s surprise element. He has been kept away from the media and is not talking about his role unlike Ronit Roy, Tejaswini Kolhapure and Girish Kulkarni, who have gone on record about the movie.” Ugly has been selected for screening at the Cannes Film Festival and Rahul couldn’t be happier about that as he’s doing a film after nine years.

Talking about the film, Anurag says, “I have known Rahul since my struggling days when we used to live next door to each other. I only discovered his potential much later after I started interacting with him. His life experience is quite close to what I have written for the character.”
