This is clearly one experiment gone wrong. Singer Sonu Niigaam, one of Bollywood’s only personalities who loves experimenting with his look, received brick bats for his latest hairdo. The singer arrived for an event in Mumbai on Wednesday night, sporting two ponytails, a severe center parting and a goatee.
Ever since pictures of the event came online, the blogosphere has been abuzz with criticism — with some even comparing the look to that of a poodle. “Holy smokes he looks like snoop dogg,” wrote Higheel. “Two pony tails? That used to be my hairdo when I was 6 :),” wrote fancynancy.
“Catastrophe!!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s crazy not to change it!” posted Anon789. “I love this man as a singer... but he has lost the plot!!” wrote another user, while Anon commented, “Is he auditioning for the role of Rakhi Sawant’s Jesus?”
Singer Shaan too commented on Sonu’s look, and posted a message on Twitter saying, “Waise aap ke kal wale do pony tail look kafi cute laga!”
Talking about the look, Sonu said, “Actually, I was in a recording session and the hair was tied to facilitate the headphones. The microphone crashed so I sneaked out to the party unplanned.” He explains that though he messes with his hair, he doesn’t plan anything. “I just have fun.”
He adds, “Don’t forget, I’m a musician and musicians are crazy. Musicians in the West are terrifyingly wild... they get their cheeks, nipples and even private parts pierced, tattooed etc… I’m still a tamed one.”
