Welfare group People For Animals (PFA) is running three animal shelters along the Gurgaon- Sadhrana border — a hospital-cum-shelter called Hanuman Vatika, a shelter for monkeys, and another one for pigs. The units rescue, treat and house stray animals and pets, and these services are available round the clock.

“I am working voluntarily here, and I feel very comfortable with animals. They feel like friends. I feel as if I am working for my family,” says Amit Chaudhary, president, Gurgaon chapter.

At the Friendicoes Animal Shelter, there is a staff of 20 ready to take care of any injured animal. “If anybody comes across any hit-and-run case, we are just a phone call away,” says Gautam Barat, co-founder of the group. It’s not just treatment. These places also offer the option of animal adoption.
