Stories of actresses being harassed are quickly squashed

Actress Kangana Ranaut was reportedly harassed by a group of hooligans on Sunday, while shooting for her new film Tanu weds Manu in Kaiserbagh, Lucknow.

The incident — said to have taken place at about 10pm the Lal Baradari building where the cast and crew — including actors R Madhavan and Jimmy Shergil — is now being refuted by the film-makers.

A crowd of over 2,000 people gathered around the location. A crewmember said, “It was horrible. A group of youngsters came very close to Kangana, Madhavan and Jimmy and started passing lewd comments about Kangana. Some of them tried to touch her.”

But, a source close to Kangana, said nothing of the sort happened. “There was no eve teasing. That was all rubbish. Kangana was in her van,” the source said. Film co-producer Shailesh Singh said, “The stars weren’t even there, so how can reports of them being harassed come up? Of course the locals are always very enthusiastic when it comes to dealing with celebrities, but things never got out of hand. Even where we were shooting when the reports started, a huge crowd had assembled because that was what was needed for the scene.”

Actress Bipasha Basu was reportedly groped by a man at a Durga Puja in Kolkata last month. Basu later said that she did have an uncomfortable experience with a fan who was a bit too star-struck but that the reports were “exaggerated”. Earlier this year, actress Katrina Kaif had a harrowing experience at Mumbai airport when a fan almost managed to get past her security. However, Kaif denied the incident.
