MS Dhoni may have shaved off his head to thank the Gods for India’s World Cup victory, but Delhi’s young boys are willing to go bald— simply to thank their favourite hero. Dhoni, who got his head shaved around 2.45am on Sunday morning at his Guru’s advice, sported the new look while meeting President Pratibha Patil at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai that afternoon.
A day later, city salons say the look is an overnight sensation. “I’ve coined it the ‘Champion Look’, and it will be a huge hit. It’s a tribute to Dhoni and suits the weather too. Besides, people have always copied his looks, be it the long hair of 2007 or the spikes, up until recently,” says stylist Javed Habib. “For young Indians, it is all about stepping into Dhoni’s shoes. Get set to see a lot of skinheads popping up this season,” says stylist Rishi Raj.
“Lucky Dhoni has gone bald. I’m going to do the same, I may get lucky too,” says Ankit Pradhan, 21. “When he chopped his long hair after winning the T20 trophy in 2007, so did I. I’m definitely going to shave my head too,” says Chetan Bhatia, a DU student, all set to don the ‘Dhoni-look’.

Even when glued to the on-field action during Saturday’s match, no one failed to notice that Sachin Tendulkar’s hair looked different. The Master Blaster, who has always had black hair, decided to experiment with his look at the insistence of some teammates. “Sachin’s new hair colour is going very well with his complexion. Brown will dominate the hair colour scene this season and you will get to see it on runways and streets. And when Sachin has done it, it’s bound to be popular,” says hair stylist Sumit Israni.
