Be a man: ahem... carry that bag

Two years ago, designer Shail Gill, had a 17-inch laptop that would not fit in the many 13-inch laptop bags available in the city. The grouse: bags you got were either too loose or too snug. And so he created Edge, the Fashion Clothing and Accessories brand that was born partly out of frustration, partly necessity. Nivriti Butalia reports.

“I felt I was settling for whatever you get in the market,” says Gill, 33. And so he created Edge, the Fashion Clothing and Accessories brand that was born partly out of frustration, partly necessity. From then on, Gill has designed bags for disc jockeys, artists, designers and professionals.

Gill designs bags, takes orders and customises them as per client needs — men and women, both. The Army brat who gets contracted by other designers says, “The kind of customisation we have done includes as many as 1-15 pockets in a single bag, vibrant red laptop bags to a jhola sling for a laptop.”

As for those laptop bags, there’s evidently more of a variety now — part thanks to him. “Ideally,” he says, “we customise bags to fit the particular model of laptop a person carries unlike the ones available in the market which fit all sizes.” To stand out from the rest, Gill uses bright contrast linings inside the bag “so that every time a person opens their bag they see colour.”
