The Grand Finale of LFW has always been a star-studded affair, but this year’s event didn’t have a single A-lister in the front row. Strange, especially since names like Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia were being bandied about right until the final day. And given that Kareena Kapoor — whose friend circle includes such heavy hitters like beau Saif Ali Khan, sister Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan and Karan Johar — was walking the ramp, the complete absence of Bollywood’s famous faces puzzled everybody.

Anjana Sharma, head of fashion with event organisers IMG Reliance, offers an explanation, saying, “It’s the same front row problem. Celebrities will say that they’re attending, for which we reserve the seats closest to the ramp, but they won’t confirm until the last minute. For our finale show, Sussanne Roshan, Arjun and Mehr, Anu Dewan and Karan were all supposed to come, but cancelled barely an hour before the show. Only Karan tuned up, but he sat backstage with Kareena,” she says.
