In conversation with hair expert Toni Mascolo

On his Delhi visit, international hair expert Toni Mascolo says a hairstylist shouldn’t treat clients like models.

When Toni Mascolo, of the famous hairstyling brand Toni & Guy visited India recently, the talent in the city impressed him. Mascolo had come to set up their first salon in Delhi; apart from two existing salons in Mumbai and Chennai.

Though not new to the Indian market, it took them a while to make their presence felt in the city. “It’s been difficult to uproot our experts from UK to India. Moreover, we cannot open a salon without proper preparation. There’s a lot of talent in Delhi and we can achieve a lot with imparting training,” says Toni. The brand is also looking at opening their educational academy in Delhi, for imparting better knowledge and training in hairstyling.

Aware that most Indian women are conservative about hairstyling and do not want to chop off their hair length, Mascolo says, “It’s all going to change due to the technique we use. We don’t just cut the hair short but give consultation on the basis of the person’s face cut, hair type, features, and according to the lifestyle they lead.”

In the past, a cosmetic brand named Toni & Lovely objected to their Toni & Guy products. “There was a trademark issue that affected our presence in the Indian market. Now on, you will see better availability across the country,” says Toni.
