Manish Malhotra, one of the biggest names among designers participating in the Van Heusen India Men’s Week in Delhi during August 27-29, has pulled out of the event. The reason: he is busy designing costumes for filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s forthcoming movie
Speaking exclusively to
, Manish explained: “I want to spend time styling Nargis (the film’s leading lady), as this is her debut film. I want the costumes from this film to be better received than those I designed for Imtiaz’s earlier blockbuster
Jab We Met
,” he says.
“I land in India on August, after which there isn’t enough time to get the collection for the fashion week together. This would have been my debut collection for Menswear Week, and I didn’t want to make any compromises,” Malhotra further reasons.
FDCI president Sunil Sethi confirms the news. “Manish has requested to drop out. He wanted to know if it would hamper the event in any way. But, we want him to do his best and if he’s not ready, it is okay,” he says.
