Gold prices may be soaring, but Delhi’s brides literally have the yellow metal dancing on their fingertips. This wedding season, the big trend is bridal nail art, done using diamonds and gold petals.
“There are small nail balis (rings) in gold that come with a little jadkan (precious stone drops) pasted on the nails. Brides choose designs with gold and Swarovski stones to match their jewellery,” says beauty expert, Samantha Kochhar. Specialists say gold nail art is most popular during engagement ceremonies. “The focal point of the ring ceremony is the fingers,” explains Kochhar.
Besides gold, diamonds and silver, rubies and emeralds are also used. “It is an elaborate procedure and costs anywhere between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000,” says nail-art expert, Simmi Ghai.
It’s not just the bride; even close relatives are opting for matching designs. “If the bride is going in for a gold butterfly, flower, or a heart, the sister or mother opts for a similar design in silver. The design lasts for almost a month, and the precious metal can be re-used thereafter,” says nail-art expert Sunil Bajaj.
