Now Uma Thurman goes desi

It seems that ethnic Indian wear is fast becoming the fashion flavour globally. Hollywood actors Uma Thurman and Debra Messing were recently seen all dolled up in Indian finery in New York City while filming their new television series, Smash.

Thurman, 41, was seen in a pink salwar kameez and accessorised the look with a bindi, a necklace, bangles and a maang tikka in traditional yellow gold. Messing, 43, wore a parrot green and mustard lehenga with gold jewellery. Last month too, actor Catherine Rusoff was seen wearing a salwar kameez at the Golden Globes red carpet.

The Indian design fraternity is seeing it as the latest token of acceptance to Indian wear by the West. Experts say that while the international fascination with Indian wear has been talked about for a while, this shows that Hollywood celebs are now game for incorporating Indian wear in some of their mainstream appearances too. Fashion Designer Gauri Karan says, "Indian designs are catching international attention due to their timeless, exotic appeal."
