Day one started on a lazy note with the fashion fraternity slowly slipping into business mode. Bipasha Basu turned up bright and early for the Rocky S/Queenie for Giantii show. Queenie’s front row was surprisingly devoid of her socialite set… wonder if there’s a mutiny on our hands?

Mugdha Godse and her fabulously toned body walked the ramp for Pria Kataria Puri, though many people failed to recognise her. Harman Baweja walked the ramp for Babita Malkhani… not sure what the connection is. And finally, statement-making menswear designer Krishna Mehta chose to showcase breezy womenwear and had Rohit Verma walk the ramp in a pink dress and stole get-up. The less said the better.

Shyamal and Bhumika
A whimsical collection inspired by the naughtiness of holi, the prints resemble paint splatters and coloured handprints. The strappy, low-backed garments were balanced out by loose fits, the perfect balance between showing off some skin and covering up. You can stuff yourself at a party, and it won’t show.

Nikasha Tawadey
Nikasha’s ethereal collection was the first inspiring one of the day. The models wearing exaggerated patiala pants moved like they were floating in clouds of silk. Colours spilled out of a masala tin, delicate ‘haldi’ yellow mixed with spicy chilli reds. Delicate floral embroidery and cloth jumhkas dangling off the end of odhnis and kurta sleeves added to the femininity of the collection.

Vizyon
Leather used to fashion bondage-style dresses and bustiers, the designers clearly had the genetically blessed in mind. The clean finish of the soft leather brought to mind a Bottega Veneta showcase of a few seasons ago, but we won’t complain. The embellished cloth choker neckpiece makes a dramatic statement when paired with any ensemble.
