Cherry lips, forest colours, brick-toned cheeks — makeup trends this season are about deep, statement huesAndrogyny ahoy

The look: ‘Handsome’ women are the new look for the season. The look was channelled on the runway by Rehane and Urvashi Kaur at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

How to get it: Brows are shaped thick, almost boyish. Makeup artist Caroline Donnelly says, "Lips are kept full and strong. When doing red lips, make sure you use a lip- liner first, and then fill them in with lipstick. Use a colour like cherry pop red or go for perfect scarlet. And go for a bushy, manly brow."

LipsGo neon

The look: It’s time to take neon colours seriously. The trend-setters believe that pop lips are going to be a big hit. The trick here is to keep the makeup minimum with sharp eyebrows. Designer James Ferrera had his models walk the ramp in shocking fuschia lips.

How to get it: Donnelly says, "The look is about a glowing face with shocking neon lips. Matte pop lips were seen all over the spring-summer ramp, and the trend will continue till winter."

Forest greens
The look: It’s the colours of nature that inspire the forest look. It was seen on models who walked for Joy Mitra, Sonia Jetleey and Rajdeep Ranawat and Naresh Chauhan. Makeup artist Vimi Joshi says, “Forest greens and indigo blues — the rich woodland colours inspire this look. It is a contemporary take on the classic smoky eyes.”

How to get it: “Line the inner and outer corners of your eyes, smudge it a bit and then pull it out to create a cat-like winged look,” says Joshi.

That 70s swing
The look: Seen in designer Ritu Kumar’s show, the 70s-inspired look was all about a modern feel (red pout) mixed with traditional elements (dark kohl).

How to get it: Makeup artist Vimi Joshi from MACcosmetics says, “Line your lips with a pencil then fill in with a lipstick in red.” Makeup artist Simmi Ghai says, “Well-defined eyes always grab attention. A deep kohl with red lips gives a glam, retro look and is perfect for a late-night summer party and cocktails.”

Structured finish
The look: The neat, matte look, endorsed by designer Varun Bahl, is hot, too.
How to get it: Gorgeous luminous skin juxtaposed against a stark structured neon orange lip is what makes the look. Apply blush on the cheeks and use cream shades.
