Lehengas are the ‘it’ outfit for the Indian fashion industry and with the array of weddings over the past months, the outfit has grown extremely popular. The trends surrounding this Indian attire are massive, especially since designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and many more are trying to elevate it by picking up inspiration from authentic regional styles and embroideries. With the entry of couture into the Bollywood movies, the trends surrounding the contemporary lehengas are achieving an edge to them. The latest example of this is seen in the upcoming movie Student of the Year 2, where Tara Sutaria is seen wearing a high slit lehenga in the song Mumbai Dilli Di Kudiyan.
Both Tara Sutaria’s and Ananya Panday’s lehengas in the new song are designed by Manish Malhotra. Tara’s lehenga is a neon green embroidered lehenga featuring a thigh-high split. The blouse is another fun piece with an extra layer attached to the main blouse.
Swara Bhaskar wore the high slit lehenga in the songs Bhangra Ta Sajda from the movie Veere Di Wedding. The lehenga had a funky denim jacket worn over the blouse. The multi-coloured lehenga was made by the designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla and is perfect if you like to experiment with Indian attires.
Janhvi Kapoor’s rendition of the high slit lehenga involved black embroidered pants beneath a thigh high slit skirt. The Dhadak actor’s lehenga was a colourful amalgamation of boho patterns and embroidery.
