Pop singer Lady Gaga’s meaty antic has helped her top Time magazine’s ‘Fashion statements of 2010’ list. Her infamous meat dress earned her the number one spot, which has sparked off a debate between fashion designers who feel it was a bold choice, and PETA, which tagged it as offensive.

“Someone should whisper in her ear that despite the attention, there are more people who are upset about butchery than those who are impressed by it,” says Poorva Joshipura, chief functionary, PETA India.

Designer Rocky S says "the dress probably topped the list for the effect of it." Nida Mahmood feels the dress "was a novel concept". "It was a great way to turn heads, but may be Time should not have endorsed it," says designer Rina Dhaka. Singer M.I.A.’s burqa act came second, followed by tennis star Venus William’s corset-style dress that she wore at the French Open.
