The real power dressing

When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan made an appearance together for the Armani fashion show at the Milan fashion week, one couldn’t help but notice the striking similarity in the styles they sported.

While Abhishek wore a suit with a black tie, Aishwarya decided to do a girlie version of it by wearing a black Armani sharp coat with velvet pants, minus the manly shirt and tie. Whether it was a fashion coincidence or a thoughtful style statement, the couple did seem to be on their way to follow the amusing trend of couples replicating each other’s style.

In recent times, celebs such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz have also been spotted dressing up in similar styles. So by matching their looks, couples perhaps are using it as a way of announcing their identical style sensibilities. Style icons Victoria Beckham and David Beckham too, have been seen sporting similar looks on some occasions.

And though we are yet to see the famously metrosexual David turning up in those confectionery colours that Victoria showcased on the runway, the couple have admitted in many interviews that they enjoy picking out items that they can coordinate. Designer Payal Jain says, “Celebrity couples sometimes dress to compliment each other, but if it’s very obviously coordinated, it looks contrived.”
