This season is going to be interesting for fashion. The Lakme Fashion Week, which starts on March 5 at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai, is something I am looking forward to as this year onwards, the organisers have decided to give up its seasonal theme for a regular resort wear week.
At the London Fashion Week recently, luxury brand Burberry Prorsum decided to have 3D live transmission of its autumn/winter 2010 showing in five cities including Dubai.
In a packed hall, the fashion lovers of Dubai watched the live show, billed to be the world’s first of its kind, in awe at how a fabulous showing could also be experienced live sitting miles away from the venue. The live stream of the same was also watched by thousands on the hindustantimes.com website.
The experience was interesting to people in many ways. To begin with, one didn’t have to go through the torturous London cold to watch the show!
The showing on the screen was also interesting because the audiences got to see interviews of celebrities such as Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey and his backstage activities, Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendt’s views on Christopher’s creativity, movie stars, Anna Wintour and models on backstage.
This would not have been possible for many at the location. The showing also had its advantages as on a 3D telecast, one got to see the garments almost in their original forms. I felt that it was even better as several strategically placed cameras made the visibility of the creations even better (ariel views included). It was a novel experience, and a good one at that.

Talking about novelty, I look forward to the resort wear presentations on the LFW runway this Friday onwards. I’m expecting a uniformity of collections. If that is coupled with positive responses from the buyers, I guess then it can be called a success!
