Deepak Sharma, 26, who was killed on Monday morning after a speeding Volkswagen Passat hit his Maruti Alto car in Sector 44, was cremated on Tuesday. Family members were joined by residents from his neighbourhood.

Sharma’s neighbours from the Sector 5 area said the 26-year-old was loved by everyone. All neighbours observed a day of mourning and skipped work on Tuesday. “He was dear to everyone in the neighbourhood and a favourite among kids. They used to enjoy his company a lot,” said Anjoo Singh, who lives just a few houses away from the Sharmas.
On Tuesday, children in the neighbourhood did not come out to play, missing their beloved friend, who would entertain them despite the age gap.
Meanwhile, the accused, 24-year-old Ankit Gujjar, who was driving the Passat, was arrested from his house in Kadarpur on Monday. He was later released on bail. The bereaved family, however, it was learnt, did not know that Gujjar had been released.
Gujjar, who is also said to have sustained injuries, is a law graduate. Earlier, Gujjar had been booked under sections 304-A (rash and negligent driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC at the Sushant Lok police station.
