The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) sent 50 more eviction notices to Gwal Pahari residents on Sunday in an effort to ‘reclaim’ its 464 acres. The civic body had sent 80 such notices on Thursday asking villagers, real estate developers and farmhouse owners to vacate plots.

Residents, however, remain undeterred by the notices. They reiterated that they have enough political support and threatened to resort to violence if the MCG carries out any action. (HT File)

The entitlement of the land in question and the mutation has been in a dispute for over three decades.

MCG Commissioner V Umashankar confirmed the development and said, “After all notices have been sent, residents will have to vacate their plots at the earliest. If they fail to do so, the civic body may demolish all structures and fence the area.”

The MCG claims that the panchayat land in Gwal Pahari falls under its jurisdiction and has been illegally encroached upon by the occupants.

Residents, however, remain undeterred by the notices. They reiterated that they have enough political support and threatened to resort to violence if the MCG carries out any action.

Ram Kishan, the sarpanch of the local panchayat before the area fell under the MCG’s jurisdiction in 2010, said residents have already approached local political leaders and received their support. In addition, anticipating MCG action, they have also sought legal counsel from advocates against the eviction notices.

The MCG had obtained a stay from the district administration that held that the mutation order of Gwal Pahari land by TL Satyaprakash, former Gurgaon district collector and the then MCG commissioner, displaced the MCG’s ownership.

As per sources, MCG wants to affirm its hold on the land and claimed that 178 people have illegally encroached upon its land.
