Security has been stepped up ahead of Independence Day, on Wednesday, with the deployment of 800 police personnel across the city. The Gurugram police have intensified the checking of vehicles at all the 11 borders that the district shares with Delhi, Rajasthan and other parts of Haryana. Quick response teams have also been deployed in several parts of the city, so that help can arrive quickly in case there is an emergency. The police said that they are combing densely populated pockets, including villages, and have even increased surveillance and night patrolling.
KK Rao, commissioner of police, said that Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) teams have also been deployed at major locations in the city, including Metro, Rapid Metro and railway stations, bus stands, and other vital installations.
A team of 100 specially trained commandos have been given the task of keeping vigil at the entry and the exit points near the Delhi and Rajasthan borders.
Three layers of security arrangements have been put up at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, in order to ensure safety and security of the people visiting the venue and performers. Heavy vehicles carrying milk, fruits, vegetables and other essential items will also be checked at the borders, apart from those carrying goods, the police said.
“We want the city commuters and residents to feel safe and secure,” Rao said.

Also, the security guards deployed were asked to keep a check on all baggage and to focus more on frisking. “We have also asked mall authorities to ensure frisking and checking at entry and exit points, and keep a tab on the parking lots. They have also been requested to report police about suspicious package, if any,” Rao said.
