Close on the heels of a crackdown on fuel stations in Uttar Pradesh in the light of alleged irregularities, government authorities in Gurgaon conducted surprise checks at various petrol pumps in the city on Tuesday.

Officials of district food and supplies controller, police, and a representative of district administration carried out the inspection to check for irregularities at the fuel stations.

The move was aimed at checking any foul play in dispensing fuel at the pumps in city, as alleged irregularities in dispensing fuel were reported in the neighbouring state earlier this month.

It was learnt that in UP that chip-based devices were installed at more than 1000 fuel stations across the state, as a result of which consumers were given much less than the amount they paid at the fuel stations. It is believed that fuel stations in other states, too, might be employing the same ploy to deceive customers.

“We have not come across any irregularities at the three fuel stations that we visited today, the first day of our inspection drive. The inspection and surprise checks will continue for sometime. We will take action against violators,” said Sunder.

The three fuel stations where the inspection took place on Tuesday are located in Sector 38, Sector 56 and Pachgaon.

The team which conducted the raid comprised police officers, representatives of petroleum companies, officials of food and supplies department and district administration.

The officials said the drive will be expanded to other parts of the city over time. It takes more than three hours to conduct inspection at one fuel station, said one of the officials conducting the drive.

They said the inspection is aimed at checking if the fuel pumps in the city are involved in any illegal business involving less delivery of fuel at petrol stations. “Some petrol pump operators in UP have been found using electronic chips in order to dispense less than what customers pay for,” Sunder said.
