After gang-rape: Manesar industry owners come forward to improve law and order situation

Industry owners will hold a meeting with the police to discuss the prevailing security situation and suggest measures to boost the same

In the light of the Manesar gang-rape case, safety and security have emerged as major concern for industry owners in the township.

Sensing the lack of security, industry owners and the police have joined hands to boost security and improve the law and order situation in the area.

“We will hold a meeting with industry owners on Monday. We will actively consider their advice and suggestions on improving the law and order situation in the industrial township,” Sandeep Khriwar, city police commissioner, said.

Industry owners said that Manesar residents will also be present at the meeting with the police commissioner.

Manoj Tyagi, president, IMT Manesar Welfare Association, said, “We do not want such incidents to happen again. The police and industry owners are joining hands to improve the law and order situation. We have offered to purchase vehicles for the police to ensure 24X7 patrolling. We have issued instructions to all our members to install CCTV cameras(at and around their respective industrial units) for better vigilance.We will improve our own security system as well.”

“The HSIIDC has decided to have more traffic lights installed in places. We have asked all our members to fence off or build boundary walls around vacant plots in order to keep miscreants at bay,” Tyagi said.

The association will also hold discussions with the police on the proposal to make uniforms and serial numbers mandatory for auto-rickshaw drivers in the area.

“We want the police to issue serial numbers for all auto-rickshaws plying in Manesar, as it will help in checking crime. Uniforms should also be made mandatory for them,” a member of the IMT association said.

In an incident that shook the industrial township on night of May 29, three men took turns to rape a 19-year-old woman in a van. They killed her 8-month-old daughter before fleeing the scene. The police copped flak for allegedly dragging its feet in filing a complaint.

The incident also spurred industry owners to lead the effort in improving the law and order situation.
