Alternative sites for debris plant sought

The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) is now exploring alternative sites for setting up its proposed recycling facility for the treatment of debris which continues to grow owing to the real estate boom in the city.

The civic body had earmarked Kachra Chowk as the site for the proposed recycling facility but is awaiting clearance from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) as the area comes under the protected zone of the Aravalis.

While it awaits the nod, the MCG has started looking for alternative sites for the facility. “We want the facility to come up at Kachra Chowk as it has depressions for landfills, which account for a major chunk of the land required. However, we are also exploring alternate sites and will proceed with the facility if we find another suitable location,” said MCG chief engineer BS Singroha.

The civic body is looking at construction and development (C&D) waste recycling plants in the Capital to plan its own recycling facility. Last week, MCG commissioner Ashok Sangwan and chief engineer Singroha had visited the C&D recycling plant sites in Delhi that have been set up by infrastructure development companies interested in building a similar facility in Gurgaon.
