Cash-strapped kids museum to shut on May 31

Stellar Children’s museum, the only children’s museum in the city, operating from the second floor of Ambience Mall will shut down on May 31 due to a funds-crunch.

Stellar Children’s museum, the only children’s museum in the city, operating from the second floor of Ambience Mall will shut down on May 31 due to a funds-crunch.

The news of the shut down has begun worrying parents, who find the space a means to expose and enhance their child’s creativity through hands-on learning experience to enhance their knowledge.

Calling the closure of the museum a ‘huge loss’, Monica Madan, a parent said, “I am a regular visitor to the museum and come all the way from Noida to engage my children in the interesting activities and give them an opportunity to learn and have fun.”

The seven galleries at the museum are based on different themes varying from science to arts. Children can find out how gravity works, design their own cars and test its strength on the self-designed roller coaster, find out which continent is famous for what, how the vegetable market works.

Started in 2012, the Stellar Children’s museum has been inspired from other children’s museums abroad, especially the United States of America. “Usually the children’s museums are designed on the basis of the curriculum being taught in the district schools and are funded by the government or the corporate under CSR projects. Although the concept has been a hit among the parents, schools and children, India has a long way to go in making such concepts sustainable,” said Akshay Sethi, managing director, Stellar Children’s museum.
