Arterial roads in the city were heavily waterlogged following downpour on Wednesday afternoon. The Delhi-Gurgaon expressway though remained free from waterlogging but those worse affected areas were the Golf Course Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Sector 29, 47, Sikanderpur, Kanhai road and Huda City Center junction.

The traffic police issued warning to the commuters about impending traffic through a series of tweets.

“Traffic alert: Intermittent rain continuing in Gurugram. Traffic police is on the job. Please drive carefully and start early,” Gurgaon police tweeted.

“Please avoid the road from Kanhai road to Z chowk (at Huda City Centre) due to water logging”.

At the Golf Course extension road, located besides the Aravallis makes it susceptible to waterlogging as run-off rainwater from the hills accumulates there. A large number of residential areas were filled with knee-deep water.

At Suncity, one of the colonies whose maintenance is due to be transferred to the MCG and is lacking civic amenities presently, residents could not venture out of their homes as water was above knee-level.

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) finished its waterlogging measures last month but the city has continued to face issues.

“The MCG has cleared drains across the city and most sectors under the civic body’s jurisdiction remained waterlog free. Waterlogging was prevalent at only some areas where the intensity of rain was high and action was initiated immediately,” SS Rohilla, spokesperson of MCG said.
