The Hindustan Times in collaboration with the Gurgaon police department on Thursday launched a safety drive at Mahavir Chowk on MG Road.
The city police commissioner, Alok Mittal, kicked off the campaign by pasting stickers bearing the police control room number (100) and women helpline number (1091) on auto-rickshaws. Gurgaon has about 15,000 auto-rickshaws.
More than 2,000 stickers were pasted on autos and about 1,000 stickers were distributed to auto-rickshaw union representatives in different parts of the city.
“Our top priority is to curb crimes against women and children. In case of emergency, one can contact the police control room and women helpline immediately,” said Mittal.
ACP Vishnu Dayal, “We appreciate HT’s initiative. The stickers will help in spreading awareness among general public. The stickers have been designed in such a way that they are clearly visible even at night.” The drive will continue for a week.
