A city court on Wednesday issued notices to the government over mushrooming liquor vends and ahatas on green belts across the city.
The notice came in after a petition was filed by MCG councillor from Ward 30 Nisha Singh.
In her petition, Singh has referred to an HT story published on Tuesday as a “cause of action” for filing the case.
Civil Judge AK Jain has sought replies from the deputy commissioner, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda), forest department, excise and taxation department and the divisional commissioner.
The petitioner’s lawyer Baldev Singh Mehra said that a court petition was necessitated as the authorities had failed to remove the liquor vends.
“After failing to find a way forward through available administrative mechanisms, we have decided to move court,” Singh had told HT on Monday.
The respondents will file their reply on March 13 when the court will hear the matter again.
About 60 liquor vends are running on green belts across Gurgaon.
Since the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon maintains that the green belts should be managed by Huda, the petition has sought orders from the court so as “to enable effective local self governance by the people of Gurgaon on activities constitutionally mandated to be done only by a constitutionally created local government, that is, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon.”
