The Haryana transport department is all set to launch a drive against persons using farm tractor trolleys for commercial transport.

Sumita Misra, the state transport commissioner, said instructions have been issued to the secretaries of regional transport authorities (RTAs) to take action against such offenders. According to Motor Vehicles Act, tractor trolleys should not be used for commercial purposes.

Misra said so far 1,110 vehicles have been challaned from April last year. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has, in a recent judgment, also directed authorities to take sufficient measures to prevent flouting the provisions of the Act.

The official said the owners of farm tractors, who use them for commercial activities, are endangering the lives of innocent people.

“The people are cautioned against using tractor trolleys in an unauthorized manner. This practice needs to be checked as it endangers the security of the other road users and the government is committed to curb the same,” she said.
