E-way firm spruces up decongestion plan

The firm also contended that heavy vehicular flow and lack of lane discipline, especially entry of cash users in non-stop tag lanes, were two major reasons for congestion at both the plazas.

“Expansion of the toll plaza and penalising errant cash vehicles in tag lanes are the two most critical elements of the decongestion plan. We have sent a proposal to the NHAI for expanding the KM 24 toll plaza by adding 10-12 lanes on either side in a staggered format,” said a spokesperson of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway concessionaire firm, the Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL).

He added, “To prevent cash users from entering tag lanes, we have requested the traffic police to challan errant vehicles.”

The official further said, “We are adding three more lanes on the 32-lane Delhi-border toll plaza (Delhi to Jaipur), besides two more reversible lanes. Work on this will commence in March. Work is already in progress for adding three more lanes at the Kherki Daula plaza. It should be completed by April.”

The option of a U-turn is also being provided at DLF Phase-III turn (between 5pm and 8 pm). Other measures include regulating flow of two-wheelers near the collection booth.

DGSCL officials said high-resolution built-in varifocus length black IR-LED cameras, capable of capturing number plate details of vehicles, had been installed at both the plazas.

“Nearly 36 cameras are functioning at the Delhi-border toll plaza, while 16 at Kherki Daula. These are night-vision cameras and have backlight composition (which nullifies light coming from behind) and highlight composition (anti-glare). The cameras are also dust and water-proof and have a monitoring range of 50 metre,” said the spokesperson.

The other proposed measures include installation of 10 new boom barriers, which will have a cycle time of 0.6 seconds compared to 1.2 seconds earlier. These can automatically detect the presence of a vehicle underneath it.

The firm has also strengthened its team of traffic marshals, lane assistants and corridor control team, besides more signboards have been installed along the e-way.
