The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given one month’s time to expressway concessionaire MCEPL to complete the work.

Of the eight junctions on the expressway, six will have to be redesigned within a month. These six junctions are Palam, Mahipalpur, Rajokri, Signature Tower, Jharsa and Rajiv Chowk. The remaining two junctions — at Iffco Chowk and Radisson Hotel — can be completed in two and a half months. Extra time has been given for the two junctions because of the complexities involved at these spots.

The decision to redesign the junctions was taken on Tuesday during a meeting chaired by chief general manager of NHAI BS Singla. The meeting was held to take stock of various works ahead of a crucial hearing in a case related to the expressway in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in another development that may help prevent waterlogging at Hero Honda Chowk, the National Highways Authority of India has got the work to construct a drain in the area started.

The work to build the drain began on September 14 and will be completed in the next four months.

The highways authority officials, however, said despite the construction of the drain at Hero Honda Chowk, the problem of waterlog ging will stop only if the Haryana Urban Development Authority is able to expand the Badshahpur drain from Khandsa to Najafgarh drain.
