Missing railings and lack of elevators at the foot overbridge (FOB) near Huda City Centre metro station, one of the busiest stations on the yellow line, are posing a threat to commuters.

Large portions of the metal railing of the foot overbridge are missing at several places. Earlier, ropes were tied to provide some support to the bridge users. But the thick jute ropes are no longer there. (Abhinav Saha/HT)

The recent spells of rain have made the staircase of the foot overbridge slippery, with the result that people prefer to hop over puddles and jaywalk across the heavy traffic stretch.

“There is a lot of traffic on the road. Luckily, because of the traffic signal at the junction, we get some time to cross the road. The stretch is riddled with potholes, which have been filled with rainwater now. I feel like an athlete high jumping across puddles just to reach the station,” said Sahil Sharma, a commuter.

Lack of elevators or ramps make the FOB disabled unfriendly. A huge divider on the road further worsen the commute and movement of the disabled.

The officials at the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) said the matter was in the Punjab and Haryana High court due to some discrepancies by the contractors.

“The matter is pending in High Court which is why no work is being done,” said Rohit Yadav, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG).
