Govt fixes rate for private ambulances in Gurgaon

The decision will regulate the city’s ambulances that did not have any fixed fares

The deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, along with health department officials, on Wednesday announced that private ambulances in the city will operate on fixed government rates.

Following the decision, a basic life support ambulance will charge Rs7 per kilometre and an advanced life support ambulances will charge Rs15 per km, the deputy commissioner said.

The move comes after two cases were reported in the last two months of children dying at the civil hospital waiting for ambulances.

The decision is expected to regulate the city’s private ambulances that do not have any fixed fares. The Ambulance Welfare Association in the city has also welcomed the decision and pledged to run its 27 ambulances at government rates.

Gurgaon district has a total of 16 government ambulances that include six in the civil hospital. The hospital has three advanced life support ambulances and three basic life support ambulances that can be hired by patients.

The ambulance service at the government hospital also provides free service to pregnant women, newborns, road accident victims and poor patients.
